Discovering

The 1st Cycle of Basic Education is the basis of compulsory education, where essential skills for academic life are developed. Each curricular area is planned taking into account a 1st Cycle exit profile and with a view to articulating it with the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education, which, in a school with several areas of expertise - as is the case at Colégio Rainha Dona Leonor - is an added value. Students are motivated to learn and are led to discover Maths, Portuguese and Environmental Studies in a natural way and in conjunction with other projects, such as the "School in the Garden" (garden-based-learning model); Philosophy - discovering the "self" and the "others"; Economics; the Class/Group Assembly; field trips/studies; research work.

Methodologies

Personal development and physical and emotional well-being are a priority and for this reason CRDL has created and implemented in 2017 the Mind Yourself (Emotional Education and Mindfulness) project, which seeks to develop in children: a positive self-concept in relation to their physical and psychological characteristics and socio-affective relationships; awareness of thoughts/feelings; differentiating good and bad thoughts; differentiating positive and negative feelings, in themselves and in others; the ability to focus and maintain attention; and gratitude towards everyday experiences.

Complementary Offers

Complementary programmes contribute to the development of the student, both in terms of knowledge, know-how and well-being. English in the 1st and 2nd years (2 hours a week) continues the work developed in pre-school, gradually introducing more complex grammatical structures and beginning written comprehension and expression. In the 3rd and 4th years, in addition to complying with the Ministry of Education's curricular matrices, additional content is introduced with a view to continuing studies in the 2nd Cycle of the Baccalaureate. The Multimedia and Programming programme allows the school to keep up with the technological world of the 21st century, fostering digital age skills and enabling students to learn to work responsibly, autonomously and creatively with tools in this area. The extracurricular activities organised at Colégio Rainha Dona Leonor seek to work in a more playful way in areas such as Experimental Sciences (which combine experiments in Natural Sciences and Physical-Chemical Sciences); Portuguese at Play and Story Time; Traditional and Popular Games (which are part of a sometimes distant legacy in the daily lives of children in the 21st century).

Extracurricular activities

The extracurricular activities organised at Colégio Rainha Dona Leonor cover four areas that are considered basic: Maths, Portuguese, Science and Physical Activity. The aim of these sessions is to develop skills related to these areas in a more playful way.

NONÔ'S VEGETABLE GARDEN

Nonô's vegetable garden is a way of getting in touch with nature, getting to know it, promoting knowledge of the flora, as well as relating theoretical knowledge to objective reality.

LIBRARY

Books and reading contribute to improving oral language skills and learning the written code of their own language.

Behaviour when wearing the uniform

1. All students must wear the appropriate uniform for the entire period they are at the school or on school activities (study visits, Christmas, Carnival and Easter breaks; summer holidays) and are therefore obliged to have all the items that make up the uniform.

2. Do not mix or match the formal uniform with the sports uniform, the latter being used exclusively and compulsorily for physical activity and sports classes.

3. All students must go to school dressed appropriately;

4. For the students' safety, earrings must be the appropriate size. Large earrings or hoops are not permitted

5. Hair must be clean and tidy

6. Students must wear their school uniform when going on field trips, unless otherwise stated.

7. The following garments are considered to be going-out uniform: Girl - skirt/pants, shirt and pullover (optional according to weather conditions); Boy - trousers/jeans, shirt and pullover (optional according to weather conditions).

8. Bibs are compulsory during meal periods and when carrying out activities that could permanently damage the rest of the uniform.

SECURITY

The safety of our children is crucial. To guarantee this, there are two entrances, North (1st Cycle) and South. At the school, 1st cycle pupils are handed in on presentation of their identity card and entry is controlled by the pupil/EE card. Control will be carried out directly at the 1st Cycle gate.

SCHOOL BREAKS

The vicissitudes of our daily lives don't always allow parents to be with their children during school breaks (Christmas, Carnival, Easter and summer holidays). For these situations, we guarantee Free Time Activities, with scheduled activities and beach periods, always supervised and accompanied by qualified staff.
